2. The Cho-sun Chong-dok pu Museum

In 1913, a Japanese official, Teriuchi Masadake, designed a plan for the

Cho-sun Mul-san Kongjinhoe (the Cho-sun Products Exposition) as an event to memorialize the five years of Japanese domination. This event was organized and administered by the Cho-sun Chong-dok pu33 and held at the Kyung-bok Palace between Sep. 11 to Oct. 31st, 191534.

The main purpose of this event was to show the technical advances of Korea during the Japanese occupation. This was aimed not only at the Korean people but also at the people from other countries, such as China and the Philippines. It was also meant to attract investments from business oriented from other countries. The Cho-sun Products Exposition in 1915 was composed of many sections located in separate buildings, including a section for special products, mechanical engineering, an art museum and a music theater. Unlike other sections of the exhibition, which were temporary structures, the museum was constructed as a permanent stone building in the Renaissance style. After this event, the museum was named “the Cho-sun Chong-dok pu Museum” and opened to the public on Dec. 1, 1915. The Cho-sun Products Exposition, including the foundation of an art

museum, was also organized and carried out to satisfy Japanese political motives35.
